Privacy Policy — Binglyst

This Privacy Policy describes how Binglyst (“the app”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use the Binglyst iOS application.
What the app stores on your device
Binglyst keeps your data on your device:
- Watch history and lists — the shows and movies you track (Watching / Watchlist / Watched) and per-episode checkmarks, stored locally with Apple’s SwiftData. This data is not uploaded to us and is not synced to a server.
- Account identity — if you sign in (with Apple, Google, or an email account), your display name and email address are stored locally on the device. For email accounts, the password is salted and hashed and stored only in the device Keychain; we never see or transmit it.
- Preferences — theme, notification settings, favorite genres, and similar settings, stored locally.
Signing in is optional. Every core feature — tracking, search, recommendations, episode reminders — works without an account.
Catalog and search
- Catalog data (titles, episodes, cast) is fetched from Apple CloudKit (a public database we publish) and, on your home network, optionally from a personal catalog server. Requests contain the titles being looked up, not your identity.
- Smart search embeds your search text using Google’s Gemini API (Google LLC) to enable meaning-based matching. Only the search text itself is sent; it is not linked to your name, email, or any account identifier. Google’s privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy.
- Artwork is looked up from IMDb’s public suggestion endpoint using the title’s public identifier only.
Friends features (optional)
If you use the Friends features, the app creates a public profile in the CloudKit public database containing a display name, a generated handle, and a pseudonymous identifier derived from your iCloud account (hashed — your Apple ID is not exposed). Watchlist items you choose to publish, follow requests, and shared-list activity are also stored there and are visible to other Binglyst users. You can delete this profile at any time (see Account deletion below).
Sign in with Apple / Google
- Sign in with Apple provides the app your name and (optionally) email. It is used only to greet you and label your friend profile.
- Google Sign-In provides your name and email through Google’s SDK, used the same way. Google’s handling of the sign-in is governed by Google’s privacy policy.
Notifications
Episode reminders are scheduled locally on your device. No push-notification service is used.
What we do NOT do
- No advertising, no ad SDKs
- No analytics or tracking SDKs
- No sale or sharing of personal data
- No use of your data to track you across apps or websites
Account deletion
In the app: Account tab → Delete account. This removes your sign-in credentials from the device (including the Keychain entry for email accounts) and deletes your public friend profile from CloudKit. Locally stored watch history remains on your device and is removed when you delete the app.
Children
Binglyst is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy; the “Last updated” date will change accordingly. Material changes will be reflected in the app’s App Store listing.
